A home sale. A helping hand.
When Lucille’s moving help fell through on closing day, Kayla and I rented a U-Haul and a storage unit, packed the belongings she wanted to keep, and helped her move. She left the rest for us to clean out later.
We had first connected with Lucille through a postcard. She had been ready to sell for years but needed an offer that could receive a judge’s approval. We purchased her home in Chattanooga’s Avondale neighborhood for cash, covered all of her closing costs, and closed at her home using a remote online notary on my computer.
Buying the house was part of it. Helping with what came next mattered, too. We did our best to live out our mission to love our neighbor as ourselves.
